It's tough for the Australian squad to achieve unprecedented feats.

The top summits have long been mastered.

This is the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and once went over three years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, those for the achievement hunters, are what's still available for a side that has accomplished all there is.

The fact it required up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, taking back their record for the biggest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the bowling attack that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It's challenging for their batters to maintain a record if not afforded the possibility.

In the end, the outcome of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy getting a chance to produce her latest masterpiece.

Initially recognized as the young family member of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has witnessed all through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup happened three months after her debut and seven world titles have followed from 10 tries across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India temporarily stopped the successful run.

That loss "motivated us to reevaluate our levels," Healy commented earlier.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this recent magnificent innings exceeded that prior achievement can be debated.

Some will argue the case for championship match pressure. Others can counter with the challenge that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's definite is this hundred was much more difficult to anticipate.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 occurred when she led the batting statistics, but this innings came after six matches in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in the nets, it was a challenging time because I feel like I lacked timing at all," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you take the field, your competitive instincts kick in and you just lock into the match."

Healy's fighting spirit has consistently been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in each encounter, but this time it merely gave Healy's inspiration.

A single came off the bowler's initial ball and after that Healy was on her way.

"An opportunity to play and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three sixes.

By the time she was out her side required another 66 at a run-a-ball - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the confidence to achieve that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it again but, should it happen, we believe we can do it."

That comment will be the last Australia's opponents at this World Cup should hear.

Over the past five days a belief they will triumph from any situation has grown stronger - this victory succeeding success over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite struggling at 76-7 at one point.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final place may well be secure.

During that phase they were eliminated from last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the first time at an important competition.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated with the discomfort.

But while she afterwards confessed those physical issues have delayed consideration of ending her career, this tournament is likely to be her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a world championship as captain.

Success in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
