Eulogies Flow for Rob and Michele Reiner as Medical Examiner's Findings Face a Security Hold.
Over a fortnight after the tragic deaths of celebrated film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues are still paying respects to the pair.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, stated he only now felt ready to post publicly about his personal sorrow.
"Enough time has elapsed that I can now express my sorrow into words," shared Elwes, adding that his initial encounter with Reiner left him smitten. "When we commenced sharing more moments together I understood this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor uploaded archival material from the film, adding that he doesn't recollect "one day without laughter".
"This story is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Principles that Rob valued immensely. That is part of the many reasons he was the perfect person to helm it," Elwes continued.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, saying: "Claiming that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still aches every time I think of you." He ended with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Friend and Collaborator
In a separate essay, revered director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved being with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was very funny and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the lead role.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked beautifully with his co-stars, and he grasped the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese added.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Sealed
Recently, a Los Angeles judge ruled to prevent the publication of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, after an appeal from the local authorities.
A judicial mandate placed a security hold on the files to restrict the public release of "related notes, evidence and photographs" pertaining to the ongoing investigation.
The coroner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the outcome of homicide, with a public database noting the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Fallout and Commentary
In the wake of the tragedy, public individuals expressed different reactions.
Ex-President Donald Trump posted on the matter, making provocative statements that were met with immediate backlash by numerous commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his perspective to the critics last week. Speaking on his program, Rogan characterized the statements as "shocking" and suggested they revealed a troubling deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan finished by proposing that an associate could have stepped in when the decision to comment on the passing was made.
