'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Relatives of Missing Teenagers Desperately Seek Answers After Ski Resort Fire
The families of teenagers lost after a tragic blaze at a establishment in a Swiss alpine town are enduring an excruciating wait for official news and pleading for clues about their loved ones online.
The fire devastated the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the mountains of the Valais region, in the middle of the night of the first day of the year. Verified video show the roof structure being engulfed in flames as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.
Officials have indicated that it could take considerable time to identify the victims of the fire, which claimed the lives of four dozen individuals and hurt another 119. Officials stated on the latest update that 113 of the injured have been identified, with efforts continuing to identify the final individuals.
In the interim, relatives have been posting on online platforms to plead for any news about their missing relatives who were present at the venue that night.
Appeals for the Unaccounted For
The fate of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are still unconfirmed, according to an appeal from his mother.
The resident of Lutry near Lausanne, informed a local newspaper that she had gone back to the city to see if he was in the hospital, while his father did the equivalent search in the capital, but could not find him.
"This is a living nightmare, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in intensive care. It's horrific," she stated.
She added that some of his peers had been found with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they endured a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's foreign ministry has confirmed that a number of of its nationals have not been located.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old junior golfer, who hailed from Italy but now residing in the UAE.
The national sporting body has said that he is deceased, without directly referencing the tragedy, honoring a "talented young man who represented dedication and true sportsmanship."
His father, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a formal confirmation of his death is still pending.
Further Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise among the missing. His parent told reporters that he had been on holiday but had gone out with friends and ended up at the bar.
"A companion said they fled after the fire erupted and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he lost sight of him," she said, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his teachers stated, "I've always been struck by his good nature and smile, alongside great maturity. He would frequently ask if help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to media.
Her sibling has published an appeal online, saying the relatives has had "no news" regarding the teenager or the three friends she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
