Trump's Organization Sought to Hire Nearly 200 Employees on Visas in 2025
Donald Trump’s family business accelerated its hiring of foreign workers on temporary visas this year, even as his administration was placing obstacles for other businesses wanting to do the identical, a report published Thursday stated.
According to data from the US Department of Labor, the business aimed to hire at least nearly 200 foreign workers in the coming year for short-term roles at the US president’s Florida property, golf facilities and his Virginia winery.
The quantity of requests for H-2A and H-2B visas covering staff including servers, office assistants, cleaning staff, kitchen staff and agricultural laborers was the record submitted by the organization, and increased from over 120 in 2021, when Trump’s first term ended.
It was also the fifth instance in a decade that the former president had attempted to hire more than 100 foreign employees for temporary positions at Mar-a-Lago, according to labor statistics.
The disclosure coincides with a tightening on legal immigration by his administration that has involved the implementation of a substantial charge on H1-B visas; increased review of the activities of the millions of people who already hold US visas; and restrictive new rules for international scholars and journalists.
In total, the Trump Organization sought to employ 566 overseas workers over the period Trump has been in the White House, from his first term and during the upcoming year.
Significantly, the former president was questioned by certain in the Republican party this week for comments defending the need for foreign workers when a business was unable to find people with “particular skills” to occupy certain positions.
“You can’t just say a country is entering, going to invest $10bn to construct a plant, and going to take people off an unemployment line who haven’t worked in years, and they’re going to start making their defense systems. It doesn’t work that effectively,” he told a host after it was implied that overseas employees lower the pay of American employees.
The administration declined a request for response, and the business did not provide an answer to an inquiry.
